Sneak Peek - New Home Page

Hi all,

To whet your appetite, here's a peek at the new RealArcade.com home page. Keep in mind that only some users will see this right away. If you're reading this, there's a good chance you're one of them!

Hope to update with more info soon,
Matt

Hi Matt. My name is Jason. I am known as "Wolverine" on the Real Support forums. I must say you guys really worked hard to reorganize the site. Love seeing the "Suggest Game Like This" feature. Random is good.

Thanks, Jason. We've also improved the search feature and I think you'll like the new "genre" pages, too.

Appreciate the feedback!

Pretty website, but where are the Preferences to change the drive for the game installation? If no go, it is go-bye.

Matt said...

"It's in there." Look for the ability to choose your install drive in the new game installer. (You wouldn't be able to see this in the screenshot, which is just the new home page).

mahala,

One clarification on the install drive. You do need to do a clean install to be able to select the install drive. Check our CS Knowledge Base for info (link at right).

Hi Matt. My name is Cynthia. I wasn't lucky enough to be using the new site but I really hope it's better than the last. I was about to cancel my gamepass because of poor site service. If this new site is as good as it looks, I may just keep my membership.

Not like I'm biased or anything [full disclosure: I do work at RealArcade :) ], but please stay with us! We really do think you'll like the new site.

If you're not on it now, you should have the opportunity to see it within a couple of months or so. Watch your email for news.

Matt, thanks for replying. I've evaluated games for a while now for RealArcade. I love it. When is the new site to come online?

Matt said...

"Soon." If you're on the "old, new" site (the one with left nav), then you **should** see the new site within a couple of weeks. If you're still on the old version of the site and service, then it'll be a while yet, but hopefully within a couple of months.

Hey Matt, Will they stop using automated reponses to our questions in online chat? That has been my biggest pet peeve next to that it takes a long time to get patches for some games and to many layers to go through just to look at a game.

god! that new homepage is cool looking! i haven't got it yet...any idea when "wide-release" is gonna happen? i've been evaluating games for years now...i was a game pass member for a few years but it just seemed like there were less and less of the kind of games i like (action, arcade, "brick-buster types"), so i guess i felt like i was wasting my money....

Was not aware that this was an issue (automated responses to online chat). I have it on my list of things to look into. I think you'll like the new navigation and search features ... should make it much easier for you to find games. Appreciate the comment.

joehandy -

Glad you like the new look! We'll be rolling the new site out to some users within days if all goes well (fingers crossed!). All users (in the US and Canada, anyway) should be on the new site by the end of May or so. We'll be publishing some additional info on this soon.

Matt: As of tonight, I guess I am one of the "lucky" ones (I hope) to see the new site, but your past notation to check the CS Knowledge Base "link at right" is not on this page. Is it on the regular CS KB yet, or is that old info? They have removed ALL dates from the KB files so I can't tell if it is "old news" for version 1.4, for the new RA 2 or the newest "2.whatever-you-call-it".

Can I assume that I should uninstall the old v2.0, reboot then download a demo from the new site and the newest downloader will be installed?

Thanks!

Matt: Something I would like mention about 1) the new page and 2) my current Real Arcade:

1) People who have the new webpage are sort of complaining about the loss of the "Coming Soon" section. Will that be restored?

2) I was looking at my games tonight and noticed that when i went back to Version 2.0 on Feb 18th, a game I bought (GamePass) after that as well as an evaluation I downloaded today are both on the partition that I had selected with the old version, not on C!

What could this mean? Did I "secretly" already get the new downloader when I installed version 2.0 on February 18th? (It was actually at 12am 2/19 by the time stamp on my folders)

This is really confusing me and I could really use an answer so I can resume game purchases.

Thanks!

You sound disappointed? Let me know if there's anything you want fixed/changed/built.

Try this link for this uninstall: http://service.real.com/games/support.html?section=UninstallRealArcade

Then, yes, you'll have to reboot and try it again.

When you reinstall, you **should** have the option of picking the install drive like you requested.

It's possible we're not catching all of the registry values in the uninstall, in which case your experience may not be as designed. Please let me know. We want to make this experience as good as you want/need it to be.

Post back if that doesn't work.

Thanks,
Matt

Matt: Not sure if your reply encompassed the second comment I wrote or not, but believe me, I am not disappointed. Here I pose the two questions again that I wrote earlier:

1) A few people on the RA forum have noticed the "Coming Soon" is not on the new site. Can that be restored?

2) My current Real Arcade version 2 seems to be installing games to the partition I WANT it to, since I replaced it with version 1.4. Now I am not sure if I need to uninstall and get a newer version. It is like I already got it when I downloaded version 2 in mid Feb. I am thinking I should see how it works with the new site, or if it breaks?

Also -- that CS KB link is for the OLD Real Arcade version 1.4. It says to download it from the website that has the same name, but the link at the bottom of the page to "reinstall" has been long gone, except maybe at the old Guide page. Also, my add/remove does not have Real Arcade in it, but there is a start menu item for uninstalling.

Just thought you would want to know that the CS KB has NOT been updated for RA 2 OR this new one.

Thanks!

What happened to the upcoming games section? That was one section i really enjoyed because itwould let me know what was coming.

You wanted to know about problems with the new page, here is another one:
The link in Help for the "Knowledge Base" takes you to Live Chat instead.

I am seeing more and more posts on the forum about the loss of the "Coming Soon" section.

mahala said...

A problem: clicking on the "Take the Tour!" from the main page in Firefox won't work and in IE7 it tells me I need Adobe Flash; the newest is installed. From the Site Map, I can get to the page for the tour, but clicking on it there opens a popup window that says:
"The web page you requested is not available
The link you followed is either outdated or inaccurate. In a few seconds, you will be redirected to the RealArcade home page."

You said you wanted to know of problems!

mahala/ilham -

Thanks for your comments. We've got these issues on our list and will get them fixed as soon as we can. We were interested to see that so many people use the "coming soon" section, and will get that rebuilt ASAP.

Mahala - still not sure I understand what you were getting at in your previous posts. Would you mind if one of our staff contacts you directly? If you'd like, please send me a private message with your email address.

Thanks,
Matt

Matt: There seems not to be a way to PM you from here; you and I are both using the Google/Blogger that, unlike the OpenID, has no PM function. I am known as "amgamer87" on the Real Arcade forum, so please contact me through the PM there.
Thanks.

Matt, and others, If you ever need help, please do not hesitate to contact me through the Lithium Customer Support forums user name x2wolverine

Matt, there is something I need to bring to your attention. It seems the customer service knowledge base needs a good spring cleaning to remove the obsolete and irrelevant search data that comes up when it comes to self help/troubleshooting issues. I could search for RealArcade corrupt issues and instead RealJukebox or other things come up. Perhaps we need to add aother category to the forum called

"RealArcade Legacy Products"

Matt: I haven't heard from anyone yet.

New problem with Page: You might want to check into the Flash Player needed problem with the new page using MSIE(7). I have the latest Flash Player (even did a reinstall just for the RA page) and it still comes up saying it is needed to see the "What's New" box. Someone else at the forum just mentioned they are having the same problem.

Thanks

Thanks as always for your comment. I've reported the issue to our team.

We're having some trouble finding a way to PM you. Still working on it.

Matt:
So I don't lose a Game Pass credit expiring soon, I downloaded a demo game and it worked fine. No prompt asking what drive to install to, but it and all evaluation games are going to the correct non-C drive. I don't know how this happened, but I am happy. My guess is that since the old Real Arcade V1.4 was going to that other drive, maybe the new Real Arcade V2 (that installed itself with the first evaluation game a month ago) saw that and copied over the preference? A guess, but all is working without any uninstallation. (All my games are not in the "My Games" section, but I have them in a folder on the desktop, so I am hoping they all run from there.)

Anyway, no need to figure out how to contact me. If I have any problems, I will attempt to contact support. Thanks!

Oh -- and another annoyance I found with the advertising on the new website: I was at a page where the Microsoft ad popped open to the left of the ad (just by the mouse going over it) and it wouldn't close. It was covering the game details. I had to go to another web page and back to get rid of it.

Any idea when the "Coming Soon" will return?

Thanks!

Matt said...

mahala - Glad things are working for you regarding the drive selection. It's something we're working on getting built a bit more user-friendly.

Appreciate the feedback on the ads, it's noted.

Finally, re: "coming soon", I'm very hopefull that will be back online soon (Wednesday, but don't hold me to that!).
